Nintendo Switch 2 to Record GameChat Sessions for Safety Reasons
One of the new features in Nintendo Switch 2 compared to the current generation is the GameChat function. This is essentially a voice chat system that also supports video if you have a camera. We have a pretty good idea of how it works, especially with the new C button. However, there is now an additional detail: GameChat sessions can be monitored and recorded for security purposes.
Details on GameChat for Nintendo Switch 2 and Privacy Rules
Nintendo may collect, monitor and record audio and video of your chat sessions

The information was shared by a player on Reddit, who noticed it and posted it online. Nintendo recently updated its privacy page in preparation for the release of Nintendo Switch 2. A new clause has been added, which mentions that Nintendo might collect, monitor, and record audio and video files from GameChat sessions to provide a “secure environment” for some of Nintendo’s services.
It’s important to note that this doesn’t mean every GameChat session will be continuously recorded and stored on Nintendo’s servers (that would likely be very challenging in terms of storage). Additionally, other services also use similar security measures.
GameChat Features
GameChat allows up to 12 players to communicate while playing. These players can not only talk to each other, but also share their screens in real-time, even if they are playing different games. If you have a compatible camera, you can use it to appear on screen. GameChat will be free until March 31, 2026, after which it will become a paid feature included in Nintendo Switch Online.
