PS5 Update Brings Back Classic Themes and Adds New Audio Features
PlayStation 5 continues to be updated, and Sony has now revealed a new update for its flagship console. Through the PlayStation Blog, Sony presented the new features coming to PS5 starting on April 24, with a worldwide phased release.
New Features Coming to PS5
The next PS5 update will focus on audio improvements and the return of backgrounds from the 30th anniversary of PlayStation. These backgrounds, which were originally released for the 30th anniversary, will now be available permanently.
New Audio Settings and “Focus” Feature
The audio updates include the introduction of the “Focus” feature, which aims to improve immersion by enhancing quieter sounds. It offers preset settings that amplify lower sounds, making it easier to hear details when using headphones or a microphone. However, it does not work with HDMI connections via TVs, AV receivers, or soundbars.
To enable audio focus, go to [Settings] > [Sound] > [Volume] > [Audio Focus]. You can also find the feature in the Control Center.
There are four options to choose from:
- Boost Low Pitch: Amplify low-frequency sounds like roaring engines and rumbling noises.
- Boost Voices: Amplify voice chats, character voices, and other middle-frequency sounds.
- Boost High Pitch: Amplify high-frequency sounds like footsteps and metallic noises.
- Boost Quiet Sounds: Amplify low-volume sounds in a wide range of frequencies.
Additionally, you can adjust the strength of the Focus effect with three levels: Weak, Medium, and Strong, and you can also control the audio balance separately for the left and right channels.
