Sony Might Skip PlayStation Showcase and State of Play This Summer
This year, Sony might break tradition and not hold a State of Play or PlayStation Showcase in May or early June. It’s possible they could even skip the entire summer season for events. This is according to the insider NateDrake (also known as NateTheHate), who has been accurate with predictions in the past, like the announcement date of Switch 2 and the PS5 versions of Forza Horizon 5 and Gears of War.
When asked on the ResetEra forum, NateDrake mentioned that he hasn’t heard anything about an upcoming event from Sony in the next few weeks. If this turns out to be true, it would be the first time since 2019 that PlayStation doesn’t have a major presentation in May or early June.
Could Sony Skip Summer Events?
What’s more, the insider also claimed he hasn’t received any information about other events planned for the upcoming months. This leads to the idea that Sony might take a “vacation” this summer and make announcements at other big events, like the Summer Game Fest in June and Gamescom in Cologne in August. These events could serve as opportunities to announce new games or give updates on existing titles.
In recent years, Sony has seemed to shift its strategy for major announcements, with a bigger focus on communicating through the PlayStation Blog. For example, the release date for Ghost of Yotei, one of the most important PS5 exclusives of 2025, was revealed on the official PlayStation Blog, rather than during a State of Play or similar event. However, all this information is still based on rumors and speculation, so it’s important to treat it cautiously until confirmed.
