Little Big Disk Thunderbolt Series from LaCie is now available

LaCie has announced the availability, or the beginning at least, of their products in the Little Big Disk Thunderbolt Series, LaCie’s latest high-end portable storage solution.

Not only is this product is aimed at professionals, it only supports Mac OS, which could easily make it the editor’s best friend.

“Performance can come in small packages,” says Jason Ziller, Intel’s director of Thunderbolt Marketing. “LaCie’s Little Big Disk with Intel’s Thunderbolt technology delivers blazingly fast transfer speeds in a truly portable form factor; we think media creators and entertainment enthusiasts alike are going to love it.”

This portable solution is the one and only solution featuring speeds of 10Gbps. Housing a pair of 2.5” drives, and supporting RAID 0, 1 and JBOD, you will enjoy read speeds of up to 480MB/s with SSDs and 190MB/s with HDDs.

The particularity about this product is that more is better, as a matter of fact the Little Big Disks can be chained together, maximizing the performance around an amazing 800MB/s. One thing worth noting though, is that the Thunderbolt cable is sold separately.

The casing is specially designed to dissipate the heat and a quiet fan will provide additional cooling as well.

“The great thing about the LaCie Little Big Disk Thunderbolt Series is its versatility,” said Erwan Girard, Professional Business Unit Manager, LaCie. “No matter which Little Big Disk model you choose, it will serve your most demanding applications with ease and portability. It’s the ultimate in storage technology.”

After 20 years of collaboration with Apple and Intel, LaCie proves itself worthy of the alliance with this incredible product, raising the bar higher for portable storage solutions at the same time.

The HDD models are already available for a respective price of $399 and $499 for the 1TB 7200RPM  and 2TB 5400RPM, and is now available from the Apple stores, both online and retail. The SDDs on the other hand will arrive in October, all the models will soon be available through LaCie’s partner’s and website.
