Game of Thrones Composer Joins Gears of War 4 Team

It looks like the hype train just kicked up a gear for the new Gears of War title, as the team hired the now well-known and talented composer Ramin Djawadi to do the score for Gears of War 4. Of course, while his name doesn’t stand out to many, you’ll be familiar with his work on Game of Thrones, which has one of the best scores in modern TV history.

With the game set to launch on PC and Xbox One this October, Djawadi claimed he is keen to remain faithful to the original Gears of War soundtrack, with his own spin put on top of course.

“I certainly wanted to stay in the direction fans know, but at the same time, I wanted to bring my own style to it,” said Djawadi. “I wanted to stay in that world.” He continued, “Whenever I approach a new project, I want to make sure I’m setting up a new sound – even through we’re still using a lot of orchestra and percussion. There are some really nice scenes that are probably unexpected for ‘Gears,’ where we’re really pushing the emotional undertones with strings.”

Having already worked on Thief and System Shock, Djawadi knows his way around a gaming score, so it’ll be interesting to see what he comes up with.

“I remember back in the day there was never enough space on the disc to include full orchestral sound,” added Djawadi. “Nowadays, it’s almost limitless. It’s amazing to be able to include a great, full soundtrack.”

Gears of War 4 launches on October 11th, so fingers crossed it lives up to the hype.
